    Opportunity: Genome Curator @ Computercraft -- Bethesda, MD (US)

    BACKGROUND

    Computercraft seeks a highly motivated genomic scientist with a background in sequence analysis and positional cloning. The successful candidate will use specialized databases, bioinformatics software, and literature review to curate genomic sequence records for human and vertebrate model organisms. The project database provides a stable reference for gene characterization, mutation analysis, expression studies, and polymorphism discovery.

    The successful candidate will work onsite at the National Institutes of Health, National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) and will be in direct contact with all the current research and researchers in this field.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Collaborate with other scientists to ensure the highest quality data content for NCBI databases
    • Contribute toward an international collaborative effort to resolve sequence associations for genome assemblies
    • Interact with model organism databases and other organism-specific interest groups as new genome sequence data becomes available
    • Evaluate and analyze sequence data to provide the most complete and accurate reference sequence to define coding and non-coding transcripts, protein products, and genomic regions
    • Review literature and database resources to provide information for display in Clone DB

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Ph.D. in biology, molecular biology, or related field
    • Extensive experience with sequence analysis, genomics, and positional cloning
    • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Detail-oriented perspective
    • Interest in contributing to public database resources
    • Ability to work as part of a team and to collaborate with other scientists
