    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Systems Administrator will be responsible for system administration for the Berkeley Center for Structural Biology (BCSB) research group. Beyond the system administration duties, the incumbent will also be involved in installation and maintenance of a variety of lab electronic and mechanical systems. Specifically, configuration and development of Delta Tau motion controllers and Wago IO systems.

    Duties:
    • Maintenance of Linux server hardware
    • Support for critical services including LDAP, MySQL, Apache and in-house Software
    • Development of system monitoring infrastructure
    • Automation of routine system tasks
    • Hands-on troubleshooting of complex systems issues
    • User support
    • Installation and maintenance of electronic equipment in lab

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Bachelor degree in computer science or electrical engineering and a minimum of 2 years related experience
    • Strong operational troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
    • Ability to work well in team environment
    • Good written and oral communication skills
    Technical Skills Summary:

    UNIX

    • Demonstrated proficiency in Linux administration
    • Networking
    • bash scripting
    • LDAP, MySQL, Tomcat
    • Monit, Nagios
    • MediaWiki, Wordpress
    • SVN
    Programming:
    • Some knowledge of one of these - C/C++, Java, Python
    • The incumbent will have the opportunity to learn new programming skills as well
    Hardware:
    • Experience with electronics and motion control systems such as Wago and PMAC
    • Knowledge of ModBus
    • PLC programming

    TERMS

    This is a 1-year, term appointment with the possibility of renewal and with the possibility of conversion to career based upon satisfactory job performance, continuing availability of funds, and ongoing operational needs.
