OVERVIEW

An Interfaculty Bioinformatics Unit has been created at the University of Bern to assist scientists of the three "Life-Science" Faculties (i.e. Sciences, Medicine, and VetSuisse). The main tasks of the Unit are to promote research and teaching in bioinformatics. For more details, see http://www.bioinformatics.unibe.ch.

The University and the University Hospital of Bern (Inselspital) want to reinforce this Unit with additional scientists that will provide expertise in Bioinformatics and Biostatistics. In total, three full-time positions will be available starting March 1st 2013, or upon agreement.

1. Lecturer (group leader) in Biostatistics with a focus on applied statistics in biology and genomics. You will teach biostatistics for the Bioinformatics MSc program and develop your own research in biostatistics that is also relevant to bioinformatics/biology. This position is funded by the University of Bern, initially for 4 years.

2. Bioinformatician with a focus on high throughput sequence data analysis and integration of other omics data. You will be responsible for analyzing high throughput sequence data from clinical projects and integrating it with other omics data (mass spectrometry; proteomics, and metabolomics). This position is funded by the Inselspital University Hospital, initially for 5 years.

3. Bioinformatician with a focus on LC-MS-based proteomics & metabolomics data analysis, and integration of other omics data. You will be responsible for analyzing mass spectrometry data (proteomics and metabolomics) from clinical projects and integrating it with other omics data (NGS; transcriptomics, and genomics data). This position is funded by the Inselspital University Hospital, initially for 5 years.
