Opportunity: Scientist, COMPUTATIONAL BIOLOGY @ Celgene Institute for Translational Research Europe -- Sevilla, Spain
Submitted by Matthew Trotter; posted on Thursday, February 14, 2013
BACKGROUND
Owing to expansion of the Computational Biology research group at the Celgene Institute for Translational Research Europe (CITRE: http://www.celgene.com/research/citre_overview.aspx), we seek a talented and progressive inter-disciplinary scientist to focus on the computational analysis of high-throughput genomic, epigenomic and transcriptomic data for patient stratification. The group places a strong emphasis upon predictive pattern recognition methods, so those who have previously applied machine learning in the biological context are encouraged to apply.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Including, but not limited to:
- Analysis and interpretation of high-throughput molecular and cellular profiling data for clinical research purposes
- Particular focus on patient stratification and RNA, DNA, and epigenetic profiling from microarray and next-generation sequencing platforms
- Implementation of data processing, annotation, and downstream computational analysis strategies
- Retrieval and exploitation of relevant information from publicly accessible, proprietary or commercial genomic, post-genomic or proteomic databases
- Communication of research methods and results through seminars, lectures and conference presentations, scientific journals, or project reports
- Participation in the planning and execution of collaborative projects with leading academic research groups in Spain and Europe
REQUIREMENTS
- Ph.D. in a computational, statistical, or bioinformatics-related field, with minimum of 4-years relevant post-graduate research experience in academia or industry
- Experience in computational analysis of biological and/or clinical research data, with focus on interpretation of high-content molecular and cellular profiling data
- Expertise in statistical programming and data manipulation, using e.g. R/Bioconductor, Python, Perl
- Good knowledge of applied pattern recognition methodologies for predictive analysis of complex multivariate data
- Proven problem-solving skills, collaborative nature and adaptability across disciplines
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Fluency in the Spanish language would be desirable, and working use of the English language prerequisite
PREFERENCES
An inter-disciplinary background involving Oncology and/or Translational Research in a university or hospital research environment would be desirable.
