    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Center for Human Genome Variation is looking to recruit a Bioinformatician I to collaborate with researchers and scientists providing bioinformatics training, consulting, applications support and development.

    The successful candidate will manage, maintain, upgrade, and optimize the operation of SQL databases and oversee administration of the smaller database that acts as the Laboratory Information Management System for the CHGV Sequencing Core. In addition, the position will manage the database of genetic variants, along with associated annotation and quality-control data from thousands of sequenced individuals and assist in scripting or programming, including optimizing the user interfaces with the databases.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Qualified candidates must have a B.S. in the Biological Sciences with demonstrable computational skills or a B.S. in Computer Science with a strong interest in Biology/Genomics. A Master's degree in the biological sciences or computer science with 3 years of bioinformatics experience is preferred. Candidate should have experience in Database Administration for MySQL Server (or equivalent such as MariaDB, MongoDB, etc.), troubleshooting and resolving database problems including data integrity issues, performance issues, blocking and deadlocking issues, replication issues, connectivity issues, security issues, etc., database performance tuning and optimization, using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools, indexes and index management, Strong Posix command-line skills, and implementing operational automation using scripts (Perl or Python preferred).
