Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, home of three Nobel laureates, is an independent, nonprofit research institution dedicated to the development and advancement of biomedical research to eliminate cancer and other potentially fatal diseases. RESPONSIBILITIES
Job Summary: The incumbent works within the SCHARP IS Applications Programming group to design and support custom software written in a variety of languages, primarily Java, JavaScript and Perl. Code interfaces with a PostgreSQL Databases and other data formats. S/he will assist in the software architecture process, work to document existing systems, design new data management tools.
Under minimal supervision, maintain, extend and document existing tools.
1. Development: a) Participate in software design teams; b) Provide analysis of requirements and specify pragmatic solutions; c) Complete programming tasks assigned by lead developer; d) Work with customers and other programmers to ensure the delivery of high-quality software.
2. Operational Documentation: Write end user and developer documentation as necessary.
3. Sustainment: Provide support and maintenance for new and existing systems, troubleshoot and correct defects, and document corrective actions.
REQUIREMENTS
1-2 years development experience with JavaScript and Java. Familiarity with modern web technologies such as AJAX, DOM, REST and CSS. An understanding of data modeling with a variety of data stores especially SQL. Good communication skills especially with non-technical customers. Detail-oriented, self-motivated and eager to learn software development best practices. UI design experience is a plus.
