Opportunity: BIOINFORMATICS summer internship @ Nestle Purina PetCare R&D -- St. Louis, MO (US)

RESPONSIBILITIES
Nestle Purina PetCare R&D has an opening for a summer student in Bioinformatics of the Molecular Nutrition group at Checkerboard Square in downtown Saint Louis, Missouri.
A successful candidate will work with our computational scientists to learn and assist with analysis and interpretation of next-generation sequencing data generated by technologies such as Roche 454 or Illumina. The candidate may also have an opportunity to work on data from other nutritional studies. This internship position will provide an opportunity to interface with our laboratory scientists, computational scientists and nutritionists.
REQUIREMENTS
Helpful qualifications include:
- Education background: Upper division undergraduate/graduate student in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Statistics or related field
- Molecular Biology: Basic understanding of PCR, DNA transcription, replication and sequencing
- Computational skills: Working knowledge in basic Unix/Linux commands and shell scripting. At least one of the programming languages is required: R, MATLAB, Perl, C or Java.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
- Good organizational and communicational skills, attention to details
- Strong problem solving skills
COMPENSATION
This is an hourly paid position at a competitive rate. We do not provide room and board.
