Opportunity: Postdoctoral Positions, Medical Imaging & BIOINFORMATICS @ University of Pennsylvania -- Philadelphia, PA (US)
Submitted by Despina Kontos; posted on Friday, April 05, 2013

    BACKGROUND

The Computational Breast Imaging Group (CBIG) of the Radiology Department at the University of Pennsylvania has open postdoctoral positions.

CBIG is a research group within the Breast Imaging Division and the Center for Biomedical Image Computing and Analytics with a mission to act as a translational catalyst between computational imaging science and breast cancer research. We are developing a research program investigating the role of quantitative imaging as a biomarker for guiding personalized breast cancer screening, prognosis, and treatment. Work in our group focuses both on developing innovative methodology for multimodality breast image analysis (e.g., segmentation, feature extraction, pattern analysis, etc.) and also on incorporating extracted imaging features, with genomic and histopathologic information, into integrated diagnostic tools to guide clinical decisions.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

Successful applicants will join a vibrant collaborative research environment, will work closely with clinical investigators, and will gain a first-hand experience of our breast imaging program. Collaborators include faculty in our Radiology department, the Abramson Cancer Center, the Institute for the Translational Medicine and Therapeutics, and the Center for Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics.

    REQUIREMENTS

We are seeking highly motivated individuals with excellent academic track-record, including publications in peer-reviewed journals. Successful candidates should have, or be in the process of completing, a PhD (or equivalent) in Biomedical, Electrical or Computer Engineering, Computer and Information Science, or related field, including Bioinformatics and Biostatistics. Ideal applicants should have experience related to image analysis, pattern recognition and/or machine learning. Proficiency in quantitative analytical methods and computer programming (e.g., Matlab, C/C++, ITK) is essential. Experience with medical image analysis (e.g., MRI, CT, Mammography, Ultrasound) or statistical methods and software packages (e.g., SPSS) is desirable. Experience in Bioinformatics or Biostatistics is a plus. Applicants should demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
