BACKGROUND
The focus of the postdoctoral fellow is to develop new methods for the structure determination and refinement of protein structures using the PHENIX software system. This position works under the direction of the Principal Investigator for this project. Primary duties and responsibilities will include development and implementation of numerical methods, and mechanisms for user interaction.RESPONSIBILITIES
- Primary duties and responsibilities will include development and implementation of computational algorithms for structure determination using X-ray crystallography. In particular, methods for the assessment of crystallographic data quality, improved methods for minimization of target functions, algorithms for the automated parameterization of structure refinement, new target functions for the refinement of structures, and enhanced structure deposition tools.
- In collaboration with others develop and test new components of the PHENIX software system.
- Test interfaces between PHENIX and other software packages.
- Collaborate with other researchers in the PHENIX program.
- This position requires interaction with P.I.s, other postdocs, Scientists and external collaborators involved in the PHENIX project.
- Publication of research results in scientific journals and presentation of results at scientific meetings.
REQUIREMENTS
- Ph.D. in computational crystallography or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience with computational methods development.
- First-author publications in macromolecular crystallography or closely related field.
- Familiarity with software development tools such as C++, C and scripting languages such as Python.
- Strong programming and mathematical skills.
- Solid interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment are critical.
PREFERENCES
- Experience with the practical aspects of protein crystallography: protein production, crystallization and structure solution.
