    BACKGROUND

    Social & Scientific Systems (SSS) is seeking a detail-oriented IT Team Lead to provide technology expertise in the design and maintenance of SSS enterprise systems, networks, and design and administration for our Durham, NC site. The IT Team Lead is a member of the Enterprise Services team in the ITS Service Group and is responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining varying enterprise systems in a health sciences environment. Extensive experience with Virtualization technologies, Windows Server, MS SQL Databases, IIS, Active Directory services, Storage, IP networks and general system management is the basic requirement for this position. You will provide day-to-day operational support and as a core responsibility will routinely be working and collaborating closely with other organizational business units, sub-contractors and consultants to deliver technically sound service solutions that meet the needs of the health sciences related business. You will be responsible for troubleshooting and resolving problems associated with network systems, operating systems, database connectivity, and application performance issues. The ideal candidate must have a solid knowledge of and experience with Security fundamentals, FISMA and HIPAA Compliance requirements, networking, TCP/IP, and other server and other networking technologies.

    You must be able to work effectively in a diverse, highly skilled, advanced degreed professional team and must possess good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple competing priorities and assignments, and having strong project management skills is a must. Previous experience working with health sciences analytic systems, analysts, call centers, and in support of federal government contracts is highly desired. Appreciation of the complexities, sensitivities and risks involved in providing researchers and analysts appropriate access to PII and PHI data and a thorough understanding of the mechanisms that must be present to maintain a NIST moderate environment.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Responsible for providing the technical oversight, leadership, implementation and support of the IT services at our Durham, NC location, to include enterprise infrastructure systems, servers, core business applications and communications networks. Reviews existing infrastructure and systems and proposes changes to meet business requirements.
    • Supervises, manages, and provides career development guidance to other IT staff. Develop staff skills; schedule and ensure appropriate staffing coverage for all tasks. Directs and supervises staff in technical operations regarding IT support, LAN/WAN, network devices, and other technology services. Manages other IT staff to accomplish these efforts.
    • Develops comprehensive documentation on the deployment and ongoing administration and maintenance activities.
    • Collaborates with SSS' operational business groups, sub-contractors and clients to develop solutions to support the requirements of the business and our clients.
    • Works closely with the ITS Enterprise Manager, Service Desk Manager, Security Manager, and the Director of IT to enhance and cultivate communications between SSS organizational units and ITS.
    • Responsible for the creation and maintenance of project documents, tasks, and system documentation.
    • As a member of a team, respond to all system problems on a 7X24 basis and take part in on-call rotation.
    • Leads and performs routine system deployment, administration and maintenance duties on IT systems and infrastructure, including: servers, networking equipment, cabling, storage systems, applications, telecom, AV and back-up systems.
    • Performs routine system and end-user support on Systems, equipment, applications and desktops.
    • Responsible for the creation and maintenance of project documents, tasks, and system documentation.
    • As a member of a team, respond to all system problems on a 7X24 basis and take part in on-call rotation.
    • Leads and performs routine system deployment, administration and maintenance duties on IT systems and infrastructure, including: servers, networking equipment, cabling, storage systems, applications, telecom, AV and back-up systems.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Bachelor's Degree with at least 8 years of related system, infrastructure and lead support experience
    • Proven project management experience
