The Human Genome Sequencing Center and the Texas Children's Cancer Center at Baylor College of Medicine are looking for individuals to discover and analyze genomic variation in childhood cancers using bioinformatics and computational techniques and concepts.

This position will run and validate genome variation pipelines with a focus on cancer applications; review existing variation and propose improvements; test in-house bioinformatics tools and provide feedback to the software development team; perform manual annotation on genome variation data; interpret results from similarity searches and from mapping variation data on genomic coordinate systems; ensure that annotation of variation objectives are met as required by project or supervisor; use various computation analyses and biological interpretation of results to review existing data and propose improvements. This position will also be responsible for testing annotation and analysis tools developed in-house and provide feedback to the software development team.

    REQUIREMENTS

Required: Master's or PhD degree in biology or bioinformatics.

Required: At least two years of experience in genome variation discovery. Must demonstrate solid knowledge of sequence analysis and annotation approaches and concepts. Should also have working knowledge of UNIX and NT systems. Experience with data mining and data integration techniques preferred. Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to work effectively in a team environment required. Individual must be familiar with or have knowledge of bioinformatics concepts, methods, and tools. Working knowledge of SQL, Oracle, and Perl or Jython required. Familiarity with various sources of genomic data, tools, and databases essential. Experience with next-generation sequence analysis, ideally including RNA sequencing analysis and integration of genomic data sets, is necessary.
