Submitted by Darren Grafham; posted on Tuesday, June 11, 2013

    BACKGROUND

The University of Sheffield is an internationally leading centre of excellence in biology, with world-class research facilities. Biology research at Sheffield was ranked joint 3rd in the UK in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise and the University of Sheffield 66th and 101st in the world (QS World University Rankings 2012 and THE World University rankings 2012-13). We also have an outstanding reputation for the quality and breadth of expertise in biological teaching and are ranked 4th in the UK (Complete University Guide, 2012).

Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (MBB) is a broad based department with internally recognised researchers active in the fields of Cell Biology, Genetics, Structural Biology, Biochemistry and Microbiology.

Further information about the new Bioinformatics Centre and associated departments at The University of Sheffield please see: http://www.shef.ac.uk/faculty/science/bioinformatics

This is an exciting opportunity to join a new venture that will bring together Bioinformaticans from a range of disciplines and interests in a single multi departmental Hub. Our goal is to create an environment in which computer scientists and molecular biologists work synergistically together to create new bioinformatic solutions and collaborative projects, which build further on our reputation for excellent research.

    REQUIREMENTS

To contribute a post to the new Bioinformatics Hub the department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (MBB) wishes to appoint a bioinformatics lecturer who can demonstrate proven success in developing new statistical tools and software to analyse large data sets, especially in relation to deep sequencing.
