    "UK researchers are now likely to announce at the beginning of next week that the "first draft" of the human genome has been completed.

    Publicly funded scientists from around the world have spent over a decade deciphering the biochemical instructions required to build and maintain the human body.

    To do this, the researchers have had to determine the "sequence" or exact order of the individual chemical building blocks, or bases, that make up DNA, the long, double-stranded molecule which is hidden in the nuclei of cells.
    The completion of this work, albeit in a form that still requires extensive "proof reading" and deep analysis, is a monumental achievement. "
