Submitted by Liz Johnson; posted on Monday, July 01, 2013

    BACKGROUND

Louisiana State University is conducting a national search for the position of Director of its Center for Computation & Technology (CCT). CCT is an interdisciplinary center which promotes high-performance computing in research, education and related economic development for the state. CCT is housed in the newly constructed Louisiana Digital Media Center, a 94,000-square-foot state-of-the-art academic and business research facility.

About CCT: CCT is an innovative research environment, advancing computational sciences, technologies and the disciplines they touch. Researchers at CCT use the advanced cyberinfrastructure --high-speed networks, high-performance computing, advanced data storage and analysis and hardware and software development – available on campus to enable research in many different fields. By uniting researchers from diverse disciplines, ideas and expertise are disseminated across LSU departments to foster knowledge and invention. More information about the center may be found on the CCT website.

About LSU: LSU is the State's flagship research university and carries the designation of "very high research activity" by the Carnegie Foundation. In 2013, for the sixth consecutive year, LSU was ranked in the first tier for "Best National Universities" by U.S. News & World Report. It is one of 21 universities nationwide holding land, sea, and space-grant status. LSU enjoys a lively and diverse community of nearly 35,000 faculty, staff, and students from every state and more than 120 countries. Located in Louisiana's capital city, Baton Rouge, LSU is approximately 80 miles northwest of New Orleans in the heart of a culturally diverse region. Forbes magazine ranked Baton Rouge as No. 7 on the list of medium-sized metros that are luring information jobs.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

The director facilitates initiatives that promote computational science and related technology education throughout the state. The director develops funding opportunities with campus, state, national and international organizations. The director facilitates campus-wide relationships with LSU's administrative leadership – especially deans, department heads, and the CIO – to continue academic partnerships, to develop the University's computational resources, and to support faculty mentoring and hiring to staff computational science courses aligned with the mission of the center. The director of CCT reports directly to the Vice Chancellor for Research and Economic Development.
