    Opportunity: Bioinformatician @ Rothamsted Research -- Harpendend, UK

    BACKGROUND

    Rothamsted Research, the UK's oldest and largest agricultural research centre, is seeking a Bioinformatician who will be responsible for developing bioinformatics resources to support our research into improving the yield potential of wheat, including host disease resistance.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Duties will include the development of bioinformatics pipelines for the analysis of Next Generation Sequencing data from crop and pathogen transcriptome and genome sequencing projects. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of a large wheat knowledgebase and novel web-based tools for delivering results internally and externally to the broader research community. The person appointed will be part of the Applied Bioinformatics group and responsible for working closely with other scientists from Rothamsted.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Applicants should have a degree in Bioinformatics or related discipline and experience working with biologists and developing bioinformatics resources. The ideal candidate would be competent in at least two of the following programming languages: Java, Python, Perl, R, SQL, PHP. Prior experience with MySQL or Galaxy would be an advantage. It is expected that successful candidates will be able to demonstrate that they can deliver practical bioinformatics software solutions and have the communication skills necessary to participate in a demanding project involving collaborators across multiple sites and potentially several countries.

    TERMS

    The post is funded for 3 years full-time.

    Harpenden, UK (25mins by train from London)

    COMPENSATION

    Starting salary normally in the range GBP 29,547 to GBP 31,995 per annum.
