    Opportunity: Senior SAS Programmer (#1147) @ Social & Scientific Systems -- Silver Spring, MD (US)

    Immediate opening for a strong analytic Sr. SAS Programmer - Health Policy and Data Analysis Group with Social & Scientific Systems (SSS), an employee-owned, technical and research firm.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Senior SAS Programmer will work with multiple large health care files in a secured MS Windows computing environment to develop and create SAS analytic files; generate statistical output; formulate program approaches and consult with client or team members to clarify requirements; write, test, implement, and refine SAS code; provide input to progress reports; prepare codebooks and documentation; perform required quality control and assurance activities including benchmarking results.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Bachelor's or higher degree, preferably in physical sciences or quantitative social sciences.
    • Ten years of working experience in SAS applications programming, including proficiency in using the SAS DATA step to perform complex file merges, create analysis variables, and generate descriptive statistics for quality control purposes.
    • At least three years of experience processing large health care data files (experience with Medicare claims data a major plus) including the confidentiality requirements of processing such data.
    • Experience managing tasks or small projects including client interaction and collaboration; interpretation and refinement of requirements; task monitoring and control; verification and validation of results; and delivery and support. May supervise or mentor staff as needed.
    • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret statistical programming specifications.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to work in a team environment, following established processes.

    LOCALE

    This position is based in our Silver Spring, MD office.
