Opportunity: Software Engineer in Cancer Genomics @ Memorial Sloan-Kettering -- New York, NY (US)

BACKGROUND
Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) is dedicated to the progressive control and cure of cancer through programs of patient care, research, and education. Our group is engaged in basic research in computational and systems biology, with application to the development of novel therapies.
We are looking for an experienced, flexible software engineer to work within the Computational Biology Center at MSKCC in the area of biological information systems with particular emphasis on cancer genomics and potential clinical translation.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Design and develop complex data analysis systems in support of cancer genomics research projects and translational applications. Join and work closely with an in-house development team and participate in several development and analysis projects. You will design, develop & deploy new & existing systems, work closely with researchers to obtain user requirements & propose software architecture, algorithms and project plans and perform in-depth evaluation of data and information to solve complex problems. Additionally, you will engage in document planning, design, and issue resolution and plan project requirements.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field and 2+ years of software development experience a must
- Expert knowledge of Java, Javascript. JQuery, Backbone.js, and D3 a plus
- Knowledge of MySQL, Maven, Hibernate, Spring, and Mercurial is useful
- User interaction design experience and visualization of Big data a big plus
- Ability to refactor existing software systems as user requirements evolve
- Strong interest in contributing to biological research with clinical applications
- Prior involvement or interest in bioinformatics or cancer genomics domain a plus
- Ability to handle a variety of tasks, effectively solve problems with numerous and complex variables, and be able to shift priorities flexibly
- Ability and desire to work collaboratively in a creative team
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
