Opportunity: Research Scientist -- Bioinformatics and Analytical Genomics (#20997BR) @ DuPont Pioneer -- Johnston, IA (US)
Submitted by Tracy Lillie; posted on Thursday, July 25, 2013

    RESPONSIBILITIES

DuPont Pioneer is a world leader in the discovery, development and delivery of elite crop genetics. We are looking for a Research Scientist to join our multi-disciplinary and global team of bioinformaticians who are seeking to identify through genomic analysis novel opportunities for crop improvement. This position will work in a highly collaborative environment with scientists and specialists across the DuPont Pioneer research organization, but especially with bioinformaticians and biotech scientists.

A primary duty will be to lead and apply genomics resources and analyses for plants, pathogens and microbes. This will include managing or developing genome assemblies, genome annotation and analysis pipelines, comparative genomics resources, and applications to support data analysis and visualization. The successful candidate will develop and deploy advanced analytics techniques in order to generate and communicate specific new knowledge and testable hypotheses. The right candidate will also manage a team of bioinformaticians.

    REQUIREMENTS

Requirements include a Ph.D. plus experience in genetics, genomics, bioinformatics, statistics, or a related field. We are looking for a highly motivated individual with leadership skills and a strong background in bioinformatics, genomics, statistical and analytical techniques, and preferably plant science. Minimal requirements include direct experience with genome assembly, annotation, large-scale data analytics, visualizations of complex data, and comparative genomic analyses. This should include managing and analyzing NextGen genomic and transcriptome sequence sets.

The person must have proven analytical, computing and programming skills. Analytical skills should include R, MatLab or related, computing skills should include proficiency with Unix/Linux environments and computational clusters, and programming skills should include Python, Perl, Java, C/C++ or similar languages. The candidate should have a sound understanding of relational database schemas and SQL queries, and be able to envision web-service application solutions. Good oral and written communication skills and the ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams are required. We prefer the candidate to have a record of deliveries and relevant achievements such as publications or data deposits. Industrial experience and familiarity with agriculture is also a plus.
