Opportunity: Computational Post Doctoral Fellow (#GENO994)@ J. Craig Venter Institute -- Rockville, MD (US)

BACKGROUND
J. Craig Venter Institute (JCVI) is seeking a Post-Doctoral Fellow specializing in Computational Biology and Bioinformatics to join their Rockville, MD location.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Post-Doctoral Fellow will work on the Type 1 Diabetes biomarker discovery project and other Human Microbiome projects. Responsibilities will include development of algorithms and statistical tools for analysis and interpretation of --omics datasets. The Post-Doctoral Fellow will apply these methods to human microbiome data generated from next-generation sequencing platforms. The Post-Doctoral Fellow is expected to be conversant in taxonomic and functional analysis of sequence data, biodiversity estimation, sequence assembly and machine learning approaches.
REQUIREMENTS
The successful candidate will work closely with Bioinformatics and Genomic Medicine groups at JCVI. Qualified candidates will possess a Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, ecological or biological sciences or other disciplines with training and experience in computational analysis and understanding of Microbial Ecology. A strong demonstrated computer programming experience, including knowledge of major programming languages: compiled (C/C++ or Java), scripting (Perl or Python) and SQL is desirable.
