Opportunity: Bioinformatics Specialist II @ Howard Hughes Medical Institute -- Stanford, CA (US)
Submitted by Martha Drews; posted on Wednesday, August 14, 2013

    BACKGROUND

At the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI), creativity and excellence are fundamental to our success. As one of the world's largest philanthropies, HHMI is a major force in advancing biomedical research and science education in the U.S. and beyond.

We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated software developer to lead the implementation of a new web platform for collaborative filtering of scientific literature. The appointee will be the lead developer in a small team whose overall goal is to develop a new website for recommending new articles from scientific literature, and providing commenting and collaborative scoring of research articles. The work will include database construction, development of the web interface, and development of statistical tools for suggesting suitable papers based on user interests. This website will be freely and publicly available and we hope that it will make an important contribution to the open science movement, and have a major impact on how scientists identify new and relevant research papers to read. The work will take place within the computational genomics group led by Professor Jonathan Pritchard (http://pritch.bsd.uchicago.edu; moving to Stanford in August 2013). The successful applicant will have the opportunity to participate fully in the academic community within the lab and at Stanford University.
