    RESPONSIBILITIES & REQUIREMENTS

    The Max Planck Institute for Infection Biology, Department of Molecular Biology, Berlin, Germany, is seeking an experienced Bioinformatician (PhD).

    Successful candidate shall have completed studies in bioinformatics, hold a PhD, and have documented expertise in its application to biological research. Strong background in computational biology, statistics, and machine learning is essential. Demonstrated knowledge of high-throughput and NGS data analysis and mining software is additionally required. Understanding of genome biology is an asset. Candidates should be proficient in UNIX (Linux), at least one scripting language (e.g. Python or Perl) and the statistics package R/Bioconductor. Familiarity with HPC environments and knowledge of high-level languages (Java, C++) and SQL databases is desirable, as is expertise in accessing public bioinformatics databases.

    The candidate is expected to conduct bioinformatics research and data analysis within projects involving infectious agents, host cell genomics and cancer initiation. He/She should be capable of interdisciplinary work as he/she will have to collaborate, advise and develop problem solving approaches in close connection with biologists. Excellent communication and team player skills are indispensable.

    TERMS

    The position is available at earliest convenience.

    The successful candidate will work as part of an innovative, multidisciplinary and dynamic research team with state-of-the-art facilities, located within a vibrant city environment. The position is initially available for two years with an option of further extension.

    COMPENSATION

    Salary will be according to TVöD depending on qualifications and experience. Employee benefits according to civil service will be offered.
