Submitted by Markus Herrgard; posted on Friday, September 20, 2013

    BACKGROUND

The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Biosustainability (CFB) is seeking a highly motivated researcher for development, maintenance and application of bioinformatics analysis pipelines for experimental data generated within the CFB.

The CFB is an independent unit at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) that conducts research on microbial and mammalian metabolic engineering and synthetic biology. Researchers at CFB have a unique opportunity to apply cutting edge academic research to translational problems in chemical and protein production in an international setting. Successful candidates will join a dynamic team working on data analysis, predictive modeling, software development and genomics data generation related to CFB projects.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Development of routine data processing and visualization pipelines for next generation sequencing platforms focusing on microbial re-sequencing, RNA-seq and amplicon sequencing
    • Development of custom data analysis pipelines for non-standard next generation sequencing experiments
    • Analysis, visualization, and integration of genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, phenomics, and metabolomics data as part of project teams
    • Participation in cell factory design and data analysis software platform development efforts at the CFB
    • Collaboration with other groups at the CFB in data analysis as well as analysis method/pipeline development

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Candidate should hold a Ph.D. degree in bioinformatics, bioengineering, computer science, biology or similar field with preferably some post-doctoral experience.
    • The applicant should have significant experience in next generation data analysis including working with re-sequencing and RNA-seq data.
    • The applicant needs to have significant experience in structured scientific software development programming languages such as Python and R.
    • Solid knowledge of statistical analysis and machine learning methods as applicable to bioinformatics problems is essential
    • The applicant should be familiar with standard software engineering practices such as version control, testing, and documentation.
    • Experience processing and analyzing other omics data types such as proteomics or metabolomics data is preferred.
    • Knowledge of microbial (bacterial/fungal) genetics, physiology, synthetic biology and/or metabolic engineering is desirable.
    • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team and to communicate efficiently to team members with different backgrounds in English is required.

    COMPENSATION

Researcher salaries in Denmark are competitive world-wide. The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union. The period of employment is 3 years with the possibility for extension.
