Opportunity: Lead Bioinformatics Engineer (#45007) @ SRA International -- Rockville, MD (US)

RESPONSIBILITIES
SRA International, a leader in providing bioinformatics services to the Federal Government, is seeking talented bioinformatics scientists, project managers, architects, and software engineers to be members of a team supporting in Cancer Research and personalized medicine. The Lead Engineer/Technical Lead will provide vision and oversight to the technical staff to develop the software needed to support the CCG Data Portal and Data Coordinating Center activities. The technical team will gather requirements, design the database and architecture, document SOPs as they relate to the, development, testing, deployment and operations of the Commons, and document code and code functionality, bugs, etc.
Position is for upcoming work. It will be for full time employment with SRA and based in the Rockville, MD area.
Other responsibilities may include:
- The candidate will plan and manage SDLC tasks for the technical team, allocate development resources, execute the project plans, mentor the developers, and ensure quality control throughout all phases of the development life-cycle.
- Assesses current or future customer needs and priorities through communicating directly with customers, conducting surveys, or other methods.
- Direct or coordinate activities of project personnel.
- Confer with project personnel to identify and resolve problems.
- Prepares project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
- Monitors or tracks project milestones and deliverables. Submits project deliverables, ensuring adherence to quality standards.
- Coordinates with Operations and program management on a regular basis to define business objectives and generate and implement plans to meet those objectives.
- Analyzes current processes and procedures to identify areas of improvement and efficiency.
REQUIREMENTS
- The Lead Engineer shall have a Master or Bachelor's degree in a quantitative discipline (bioinformatics, computer science, or related fields) and 6+ years experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in bioinformatics research and in leading a technical team of at least 15 people to deliver a forward-leaning technology in a fast-paced environment.
PREFERENCES
- Experience with NoSQL, Python, AWS desired.
