    DESCRIPTION

    A postdoctoral position is available in the Lab of Genomics and Expression (http://www.lge.ibi.unicamp.br/cgi-bin/pagina/index.cgi) of the Biology Institute at UNICAMP – Brazil. The project is part of a fellow for a Center for Computational Science and Engineering that is being implemented at UNICAMP (http://cepid.fapesp.br/centro/13/).

    The goal of this project is to apply high performance computing methods to assembly genomes and identify gene families related to the evolution of plant pathogenicity on fungus responsible for important diseases in cacao.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Qualifications and Experience:
    • Complete PhD in genetics, molecular biology, evolution or related areas
    • Strong experience in computational analysis for genomic studies, including genome assembly and gene prediction; The candidate should also be familiar with methods to access online data repositories and knowledge of Perl may be advantageous.
    • Strong experience in phylogenetic analysis with molecular data, phylogenetic comparative analysis and the detection of natural selection on the DNA sequence
    Applicant should have the ability to work independently as well as in coordination with internal and external collaborators, should have the capacity to solve technical and scientific problems. The postdoc should have demonstrated capacity to plan, execute, and summarize the work for preparation of reports and publications. Good communication and presentation skills and fluency in Portuguese or English are expected. Candidate should be receptive to advising students.
