    RESPONSIBILITIES

    There is a newly opened job opportunity within the Molecular Carcinogenesis department for a Sr. Statistical Analyst, MD Anderson Cancer Center. The primary purpose of the Senior Statistical Analyst position is to carry out statistical consulting responsibilities related to cancer research, development of statistical programs and performing statistical and bioinformatics analysis. This position will assist with the development of data analysis pipelines running on Linux environment for next generation sequencing data.

    Key Functions:
    1. Bioinformatics Support
    Perform basic and advanced analysis on data produced from next generation sequencing systems (DNA-seq, RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, Bisulfite sequencing etc.). Improve, modify, and operate data analysis pipelines of whole human genome or exome sequencing with a solid background in computational biology/biostatistics. Design and apply bioinformatics algorithms to elucidate global regulatory mechanism by integrating data from ChIP-seq, DNA methylation, and RNA-seq. Leverage a wide range of bioinformatics and statistical skills with a focus on contributing to elite NGS cancer and epigenetic research projects.

    2. Expertise and Specialization
    Utilizing knowledge and experience in both Windows and Linux operating systems, with emphasis on Linux, shell scripting within Bash environment or similar general purpose programming languages, develop high quality scripts (R, Perl or Python) and programs (C/C++, and optionally Java) for genomic applications, evaluate research project results and develop appropriate responses to resolve problems, review scientific findings/articles, evaluate and build upon third-party open-source bioinformatics and other software applications, and use public genome databases (NCBI, EBI, UCSC, etc.). Perform bioinformatics algorithms and large-scale data analysis.

    3. Research Support
    Assist the Principal Investigator with bioinformatics research projects. Function in a separate and independent manner in planning, developing and executing the computational tools and algorithms necessary to understand cellular and molecular mechanisms of carcinogenesis, cancer epigenetics, and other biological processes. Evaluate research data and interpret results. Advance the aims of the project. Represent the lab at conferences and meetings. Compile, write and submit reports to superiors. Perform other duties as assigned.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Master's degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, Bioinformatics, Mathematics or related field.
    • Four years experience with mainframe and/or PC databases, document processing, and statistical software such as SAS and S-PLUS. With preferred degree, two years of required experience.

    PREFERENCES

    • PhD in Biostatistics, Statistics, Bioinformatics, Mathematics or related field.
    • Six years experience with mainframe and/or PC databases, document processing and statistical software such as R and Perl, Python, Java or C/C++ in an academic or healthcare related setting.

    Salary Minimum: $66,400.00
    Salary Midpoint: $83,000.00
    Salary Maximum: $99,600.00
