DESCRIPTION
You will use your strong foundation in biology, computational techniques, and creativity to assess, ensure, and improve the quality of our rich and diverse biological content. We have built a world-class Knowledge Base rich with molecular and functional relationships derived from scientific literature and biological databases. Our content is the driving force behind our sophisticated existing and emerging solutions, from our flagship product Ingenuity Pathways Analysis to our newly introduced
Ingenuity Variant Analysis. Your work will help assure the correctness, completeness, accuracy, and reliability of the biological content, analytics, and interpretations in these applications. This is an excellent opportunity to be directly involved in developing our technology, delivering a high-quality product, and making an impact on life science research and healthcare. Training will be provided.
Duties/Responsibilities:- Work with scientific curators and developers to identify and analyze content issues. Write and maintain code that can determine when content may be inconsistent, unexpected, or not well-supported.
- Think critically about our technology and processes and develop scalable methods for testing scientific quality.
- Analyze and report defects found with tests and assess risk. Be a passionate voice of our scientific product customers internally. Evaluate, prioritize, and escalate issues as necessary.
- Work with biologists and data analysts to assure the quality of processes, tools, and models for developing, delivering and maintaining our Knowledge Base.
REQUIREMENTS
- Strong foundation in biological science, especially genetics.
- Proven ability to solve problems using programming skills, especially in Perl, Python, or Java. 3+ years experience or formal or advanced training preferred.
- Familiarity with various biological content sources, e.g. PubMed, NCBI databases, ClinicalTrials, etc.
- Familiarity with wet laboratory techniques. 1+ years experience or formal or advanced training preferred.
- Excellent critical and analytical thinking with strong attention to detail.
- Energetic and open-minded individual with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Enthusiasm to learn new technologies, explore diverse content, and algorithms.
- Education: Graduate degree (PhD-level preferred) in biological science with strong computer science background, computational biology, or bioinformatics.
PREFERENCES
- Knowledge of one or more of the following: biomedical text mining, Natural Language Processing (NLP), Information Extraction, Information Retrieval (IR), ontology, semantic technology, machine learning, Artificial Intelligence, or expert systems.
- Familiarity with medical genetics, human genetic diseases, or study of genotype-phenotype relationships.
- Experience with data integration.
- Proficiency with database design and programming (e.g. SQL, Oracle).
- Knowledge of software development best practices, quality controls, testing techniques.
