Submitted by Stephanie Alvord-Albanese; posted on Monday, June 02, 2014
RESPONSIBILITIES
We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join the Applied Wheat Genomics Innovation Lab and Wheat Genetics Resource Center at Kansas State University. Working at the interface of wheat genomics, breeding and international development for food security, we are applying next-generation sequencing to characterize the wheat genome and implement genomic selection to accelerate wheat improvement. The associate scientist in bioinformatics will lead computational approaches to utilize next-generation sequencing data in wheat. Research will include developing bioinformatics pipelines for whole-genome and reduced representation sequencing, interpreting large genomic datasets, characterizing genetic diversity and population structure, developing whole-genome prediction models, and genome-wide association mapping for wheat improvement. The scientist will analyze whole genome sequence and genotyping-by-sequencing data of wheat, integrating genomic and genotyping resources for molecular breeding and improved assembly and anchoring of the wheat genome. The associate scientist will lead preparation of scientific manuscripts reporting research methodology, results and interpretations. The candidate must be able to work in a multi-cultural setting and create an environment that fosters collegiality, diversity and teamwork.
REQUIREMENTS
Ph.D. in bioinformatics, computational biology, or closely related discipline. Experience working with next-generation sequencing data, whole-genome assembly, genotyping-by-sequencing.
