    BACKGROUND

The Hawkesbury Institute for the Environment (HIE) is one of four Institutes at UWS dedicated to excellence in research. The mission of the HIE is to generate insights into the impacts of a rapidly changing environment on Australia's natural and managed ecosystems. The Institute has more than 70 academic and support staff working in pleasant natural surroundings on the Hawkesbury campus of UWS. The Institute also has a large cohort of postgraduate research students and visiting scientists.

We are seeking the appointment of a Senior Lecturer (Level C) or Associate Professor (Level D) in Bioinformatics to an ongoing position. The appointee will have expertise in the development of bioinformatics tools for the analysis of next-generation sequence data arising from genomic and transcriptomic projects. It is also expected that the appointee will undertake a bioinformatics research program and ideally work across a variety of genomes (microbes, plants, animals) and metagenomes.

Relevant areas of research expertise might include (but are not limited to) the development of novel and existing pipelines for (i) quality checking and trimming of sequencing data, (ii) sequence assembly, (iii) sequence binning based on compositional or sequence similarity, and (iv) gene annotation. The University has an in-house Next-Generation Sequencing facility and dedicated computational infrastructure for bioinformatics analyses and research.
