    Opportunity: Experienced Bioinformatician -- remuneration package $130k per annum @ NSilico Life Science Ltd. -- Cork, Ireland

    BACKGROUND

    NSilico Life Science Ltd. is an exciting new bioinformatics company based in Cork, Ireland. The company has made rapid progress since its inception over 2 years ago and as part of its expansion seeks to recruit an experienced bioinformatician. The successful application will be recruited on a fixed-term 15 month contract to work for NSilico on a European Commission funded Framework Programme 7 Marie Curie collaborative project (http://www.cloudxi.eu) with the University of Edinburgh and the Cork Institute of Technology.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The recruited candidate will be expected to lead the integration of bioinformatic tools into pipelines for the analysis and interpretation of prokaryotic and eukaryotic sequence data. The candidate will also be required to interface closely with academic and commercial collaborators within the confines of the project consortium but also within a wider context.

    Furthermore, it is expected that the recruited candidate will actively seek new opportunities to build further on the project outputs and impact.

    REQUIREMENTS

    With the above in mind, the follow is considered essential
    • Experience in NGS sequence analysis (including but not limited to: mapping, variant calling, SNP/ Indels, phylogenomic and metagenomic analysis)
    • Experience in the analysis of large genomic datasets including integration with data available from public or private sources
    • Expertise in the use and integration of bioinformatics tools and databases
    • Expertise in Unix scripting and programming languages including Python, R, SQL, and C
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills
    • Ability to identify and solve complex problems
    • High degree of self-motivation
    • Proven ability to work as part of a team

    PREFERENCES

    In addition the following would be considered advantageous:
    • Experience of working in a clinical setting
    • Experience of working in an industrial setting
    • Interest in Web programming including HTML 5 and Javascript
    • Experience of machine learning tools for aiding of interpretation and classification of results.

    TERMS

    As this is an EU funded position, it is open to ALL nationalities (including non-European), but there are certain "mobility" and "experience" restrictions. Thus, only candidates who have (a) spent more than 24 of the last 36 months living outside of Ireland and (b) have at least 10 years experience post their primary degree can be considered.

    COMPENSATION

    There is a very generous remuneration package for this position which consists of a gross annual salary of EUR 95,462 PLUS a "mobility allowance" of EUR 700/month (for researchers without a family) or EUR 1000/month (for researchers with a family).
