BACKGROUND

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Interacting closely with other scientists, clinicians, and bioinformaticians to design and implement enhancements to existing bioinformatics software or create new research software.
• Implementing software by incorporating open source or commercial bioinformatics software into a robust framework into stand-alone pipelines, applications or websites.
• Utilizing iterative development cycles, incorporating large data sets (stored in databases or flat-files) and providing interactive informative visualizations to be used by biomedical researchers in their work.

REQUIREMENTS

• We are open to mid-level Software Engineers with a BS/BA degree and 3+ years experience or Senior Software Engineers with a BS/BA and 6+ years experience. Equivalent combination of experience and no degree or higher education will also be considered
• Experience in enterprise level Java development platforms such as: J2EE, EJB, Struts, Spring, Hibernate.
• Experience creating scientific research software, preferably in bioinformatics or neuro-imaging research, through iterative interaction with end-user scientists / clinicians and the incorporation of open source or commercial software into novel pipelines, applications or web-sites.
• Experience utilizing large datasets of DNA sequence, proteomics, image or other biological data, stored either in relational databases such as Oracle, MySQL and PostgreSQL or flat files.

PREFERENCES

• Experience implementing packages in R, S, or other statistical software packages is preferred
• Additional experience using C/C++ or .Net technologies is a plus
• Strong written and verbal communication skills will be needed
• Experience presenting at scientific conferences is a plus
• Degree in computer science or similar discipline is preferred
