RESPONSIBILITIES:
An exciting new opportunity exists for a data scientist to join the UK innovation Platform Technology and Science (iPTS) department which has innovation and creativity at its heart.

Job Purpose:

• Responsible for the design and development of signal processing concepts for measurement science systems and their implementation in hardware and/or embedded software.
• Developing novel algorithms to analyse unstructured raw data from sensor devices
• Novel hypotheses testing through machine learning algorithm in disconnected databases within and outside GSK
• Developing Proof-of-Concepts, prototypes and software product for unstructured data analysis
• Work closely with our partners in clinical development and agree business objectives
• Introduction of emerging technologies
• Provide signal processing scientific consultancy expertise
• Manage external collaboration with appropriate solution providers

Key Responsibilities:

• Design novel signal processing concepts for divers challenges
• Ability to explain mathematical principles to non-specialists colleagues
• Assessment of new technologies and facilitate uptake into GSK to solve technical challenges
• Building an excellent work relationship with our respiratory therapeutic unit as well as the clinical unit at Cambridge, UK with the goal to delivery novel software solutions to analyses diverse data
• Conduct regular foresight screens with the aim to open up new opportunities
• Identify and manage external collaborations
• Act as subject matter expert on strategic endorsed initiatives
• Group contact for signal processing opportunities
• Representing GSK in discussions with external parties
• Adopt good scientific practices in all phases of the research and development process
• Securing and protecting GSK's intellectual property in signal processing technology

Accountability:

• Significant impact on the direction of biology target engagement measurement strategy, patient centric technology, and product quality, based on process optimization by monitoring real-time process units and their operational parameters
• Internal marketing of the potential for incorporation signal processing in the decision making processes
• Publish in relevant scientific journals
• To work individually and as part of a multi-disciplinary development team to make innovative contributions in delivering creative options and solutions to address pharmaceutical signal processing challenges.
• To participate in technical measurement science reviews and identify critical signal processing requirements and the existing capabilities and limitations by gathering and interpreting suitable experimental data

REQUIREMENTS:
Basic qualifications:

• M.Sc. in Applied Mathematics, Theoretical Physics, Information Engineering, or related discipline, with a strong grounding and experience in machine learning algorithm, signal processing and information engineering.
• Excellent all round analytical, statistical processing and programming abilities (such as in Matlab).
• Strong modeling capabilities (System Noise, error detection, and signal reconstructions, etc)
• Development and optimization of signal processing algorithms
• Previous experience of firmware development including digital signal processing (DSP) and a range of other development skills, including one or more of the following: embedded software (C), application development (C++), user interface development (eg Java, JSP).
• Data mining experience in the context of large time series and other datasets
• Evidence of successful working with cross functional teams
• Strong written and verbal communications skills
• Demonstrated effective interpersonal, communications and negotiation skills for a wide variety of audiences, including senior management
• Evidence of problem solving and opportunity building using ideation principles and creative thinking
• Imaginative and inquisitive mind, eager to learn new skills and to develop solutions for interesting and complex challenges

Preferred qualifications:

• Preferably Ph.D. with previous experience with specialized knowledge in several signal processing areas such as closed feedback loops.
