Opportunity: Bioinformatics Research Scientist (#32647) @ St. Jude Children's Research Hospital -- Memphis, TN (US)
Submitted by Human Resources; posted on Tuesday, September 02, 2014

    BACKGROUND

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, founded by the late entertainer Danny Thomas, is one of the world's premier centers for the research and treatment of pediatric cancer and other catastrophic childhood diseases. St. Jude is the first and only pediatric cancer center to be designated as a Comprehensive Cancer Center by the National Cancer Institute. Children from all 50 states and from around the world have come through the doors of St. Jude for treatment, and thousands more around the world have benefited from the research conducted at St. Jude - research that is shared freely with the global medical community. St. Jude is the only pediatric cancer research center where families never pay for treatments that are not covered by insurance. No child is denied treatment because of a family's inability to pay.

SJCRH Computational Biology (Comp. Bio) Department is looking for a highly motivated bioinformatics research scientist to work on collaborative research projects with SJCRH investigators and external scientists. The Department has a well-established track record in leading bioinformatics analysis for high-profile collaborative research projects such as the St. Jude/Washington University Pediatric Cancer Genome Project which has resulted in multiple, high impact publications in the journals of New England Journal of Medicine, Nature, Nature Genetics, Nature Methods, JAMA and Cancer Cell. CompBio provides a highly collaborative teamwork environment, access to state-of-art computational infrastructure, well-established analytical pipeline, and deep experience in analyzing, managing, visualizing and delivering high-quality results for highly competitive projects. The bioinformatics research scientist will have an opportunity to work on large-scale discovery projects using the latest genomic sequencing technology including whole genome/exome sequencing, RNA-seq, CHIP-seq and MiSeq. The specific areas may include cancer genome characterization for primary tumor and mouse model, familial diseases, influenza virus genome evolution, bacterial infection and meta-genomics and gene therapy. Candidates with deep understanding of biological problems, critical thinking, and expertise in genomic data analysis especially in phylogenetic analysis are highly encouraged to apply for this position.
