BACKGROUND
The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest ranked scientific research organisations in the world. The Headquarters Laboratory is located in Heidelberg (Germany), with additional sites in Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany), Hinxton (UK) and Monterotondo (Italy).RESPONSIBILITIES
The Bio-IT Project supports the growing computational biology community and facilitates their activities across EMBL units in Heidelberg. More specifically, the project provides (i) a web-based information and communication platform for computational biology (ii) streamlining bioinformatics efforts, e.g. by facilitating software standardization (iii) in-house training (iv) networking events to promote professional and social interactions amongst the EMBL bioinformatics community.
The successful candidate's responsibilities will include:- Providing assistance with and consulting on the use of bioinformatics tools and resources
- Organising and delivering bioinformatics training courses
- Maintaining and developing an internal portal and external web presence
- Contributing to the planning and logistics of other Bio-IT related activities
- Coordinating community building, networking, and user feedback
REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate will have a PhD or equivalent experience or qualifications in bioinformatics, with experience working with a range of different, commonly used, bioinformatics tools, along with experience working with and maintaining web content and technologies. Experience of Linux/Unix is required. The position will involve working closely with other members of the Bio-IT community, so excellent teamwork and communication skills are particularly important for this position.LOCALE
