BACKGROUND

We are currently offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual to lead the Computational Biology Support Team at CRUK MI.

Our aim is to understand the fundamental basis of cancer and apply that knowledge to developing new treatment strategies for cancer patients. Our advanced research programmes span a spectrum of cancer research, from the molecular and cellular basis of cancer through to drug discovery, translational research and clinical trials. The Institute houses several state of the art core facilities that play a key role in providing access to technology platforms that underpin many of the research programs on site.

We are situated in Manchester, England, a vibrant and dynamic city that is surrounded by beautiful countryside and has excellent transport links both nationally and internationally.

RESPONSIBILITIES

We are currently looking for a senior computational biologist who can provide leadership to the Computational Biology Support team at the CRUK MI. They will work closely with the RNA Biology Group leader to coordinate the activities of a team providing state of the art analysis of high throughput genomics data. These will include deep sequencing and mass spectrometry datasets arising from our molecular core facilities. They will make extensive use of an HPC facility located on site and will work closely with our Scientific Computing team to provide timely analysis of high volumes of complex data.

REQUIREMENTS

The successful applicant should have a relevant PhD in the numerical sciences (or equivalent relevant experience), along with a broad knowledge of genomic technologies and their application to cancer research. They will have a detailed understanding of the statistics, tools and approaches available for analysing large genome-wide datasets and will combine these with excellent communication skills and a desire to work within a multidisciplinary team. They will also have some management experience and a clear vision of how to approach service provision in an academic environment.

Salary on a scale starting at: GBP 33,000 (dependent upon experience)
