    DESCRIPTION

    The Administrative Division of the Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation is looking for an experienced, insightful, service-minded and engaging leader for its Bioinformatics and Research Support team. This team provides the researchers in the Foundation's operating divisions with access to many types of data analysis and computational expertise, helping to further the organization's mission of advancing agricultural science and practices in the Southern Great Plains and around the world.

    The Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation, Inc. (http://www.noble.org) is a non-profit research institute with a vision to enhance local agriculture by exploring and improving production techniques and advancing plant science through research and discovery. The Foundation is one of the world's leaders in interpretation of the Medicago truncatula genome and in the study of other forage and bioenergy crops including switchgrass, alfalfa and tall fescue. The Foundation has recently made substantial investments in its IT infrastructure, providing world-class computational resources for its analytical personnel. Biological researchers in all areas are incorporating computational analysis into their studies, resulting in greater demand for bioinformatics professionals.

    The Bioinformatics & Research Support Manager will report to the Director of the Computing Services Department, and be responsible for the provision of quality bioinformatics services to the Foundation's research groups, planning of computational research infrastructure, management of scientific software development and leadership of a scientific support services team. The successful candidate will have a biological sciences research background, strong technical knowledge from hardware through software, expertise in the field of bioinformatics, and strong leadership experience in a similar environment, having demonstrated a vision for provision of computational services to researchers, and the ability to manage day-to-day operations in a research services group.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • A minimum of a Master's degree in bioinformatics, computer science, or a related field is required; a doctorate in one of these areas is preferred.
    • Minimum five years' experience with next-generation sequencing data (Illumina, 454, etc.), gene expression analysis (primarily RNA-seq and microarray), and knowledge of basic molecular biology, genomics, genetics, and transcriptomics concepts required; proficiency in at least one common programming or scripting language, with Linux and relational databases required; GWAS and GBS knowledge preferred.
    • Demonstrated leadership experience required; experience in a managerial capacity highly preferred
