    SUMMARY

    The Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology and Epigenetics in Freiburg, Germany has an opening for a Bioinformatician for an initial period of two years.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Your tasks:
    The successful candidate will work at the interface between an in-house deep-sequencing facility (HiSeq-2500) and the various research groups at the institute. Main responsibilities include
    • Primary analysis of deep-sequencing data and quality controls
    • Maintenance and extension of existing analysis pipelines
    • Data and software management for the Bioinformatics Group
    • Training and consulting
    Most of the above tasks are executed within the context of our Galaxy platform that will have to be administrated and further developed. There will be ample opportunities for direct collaborations with research groups and methodological developments.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Your qualifications:
    The candidate should have a good understanding of deep-sequencing technology and experience with the analysis of large-scale data. Prior work with NGS data and/or the administration of a Galaxy server will be advantageous. Given the large variety of research projects, we are looking for people who enjoy working (and teaching) in an interdisciplinary environment. Other requirements are
    • Degree in Bioinformatics or related field
    • Proven expertise in programming (e.g. Python, Java) and statistical analysis (R)
    • Proficiency with Linux OS and in-depth IT-skills.
    • Good database management skills (SQL)
    • Organizational talent and multi-tasking ability
    • Very good command of English language

    COMPENSATION

    Our offer:
    Based within close vicinity to both France and Switzerland, our institute hosts a vibrant community of international researchers, state-of-the-art facilities, and modern office space. Salaries will be based on previous experience according to the German pay scale for civil service (TVöD) including health insurance and other social benefits. A childcare facility is directly attached to the institute.
