    BACKGROUND

    The Hawkesbury Institute for the Environment (HIE) is one of four Institutes at UWS dedicated to excellence in research. The mission of the HIE is to generate insights into the impacts of a rapidly changing environment on Australia's natural and managed ecosystems. The Institute has more than 70 academic and support staff working in pleasant natural surroundings on the Hawkesbury campus of UWS. The Institute also has a large cohort of postgraduate research students and visiting scientists.

    REQUIREMENTS

    We are seeking the appointment of a Research Fellow in Bioinformatics to focus on research related to the development of bioinformatics tools for the analysis of microbial genomic/metagenomic/ meta-transcriptomic data generated using next-generation sequencing platforms. The University has an in-house Next-Generation Sequencing facility comprising both Illumina and Roche sequencing platforms, and dedicated computational infrastructure for bioinformatics analyses and research.

    The successful applicant will be expected to initiate and successfully progress research projects in the broad area of bioinformatics that is relevant to the Soil Biology & Genomics research theme. The appointee will also have the opportunity to undertake further training in the latest bioinformatics tools and approaches through collaboration with overseas collaborators working in this area of research.

    COMPENSATION

    Level A $79,454 AUD to $84,295 p.a. AUD plus 17% Superannuation and Leave Loading
