    BACKGROUND

    Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Cancer Systems Biology to join a rapidly growing Bioinformatics Research Core group headed by Dr. Anastasia Samsonova based at the Department of Oncology, University of Oxford. The purpose of the role is to develop and deliver integrative approaches to dissect the complexity of cancer as a genomic disease. The research will focus on development and application of effective strategies for mining and integration of complex human *omics datasets and clinical/phenotypic data in cancer studies.

    The role sits at the critical interface between genetics and cancer systems biology, and would suite a candidate who is interested in developing a career at the confluence of Statistics/Data Mining/Machine Learning and Biology.

    Ideally, you will have experience in development of analytical approaches to high-­â€throughput and multivariate data mining and integration gained through a PhD (or equivalent) in a quantitative subject (e.g. Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Engineering or Computer Science).

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The primary responsibility is to analyse high-throughput data, with particular emphasis on integrating human genetic data with complex *omics datasets (e.g., epigenetic, RNA-sequencing, proteomics, metabolomics) and phenotypic data in cancer studies.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • PhD, or equivalent experience in mathematics, statistics, computer science, engineering or in a field relevant to computational biology
    • Strong background in Data Mining/ Machine Learning/ Statistics and analysis of high-dimensional and mutivariate data
    • Strong programming skills in Python, Perl, Java, C++ or other language
    • Familiar with data analysis and visualization using R
    • Experience with Linux and high performance computing environment
    • Experience in high-throughput data analysis, integration and interpretation (high-throughput sequencing, array-based technologies, etc.), preferably in human disease and cancer
    • Familiarity with various public biological databases and data repositories, statistical software tools and packages, bioinformatics algorithms, particularly in the analysis of NGS data
    • Research experience and a publication record in peer-reviewed journals
    • Enthusiasm for and a desire to make a career in cancer systems biology, bioinformatics and functional genomics
