    DESCRIPTION

There is an immediate opening for a Bioinformatics Specialist in the Bioinformatics Core Facility at the La Jolla Institute of Allergy and Immunology (LJI). The position involves taking on both short- and long-term projects and delivering results to various researchers throughout LJI, who are all leaders in their respective fields. Many of the projects deal directly with the analysis of sequence data produced by one of the 5 next-generation sequencers in our Sequencing Core Facility. However, projects can involve data from a multitude of sources, including: microarrays, ELISAs, ELISPOTs, CyTOF, mass spectrometry, etc. Requests may also include educating and empowering researchers to perform analyses on their own. Bioinformatics Core staff members help with manuscript preparation and are often included as co-authors when their contributions are significant. The candidate should therefore have excellent oral and written communication skills, be comfortable with dealing with a variety of data types, be familiar with standard bioinformatics practices and databases, and have a solid understanding of statistics for biology.

The successful candidate will be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment, juggle multiple projects, understand priorities, complete tasks in a timely manner, and communicate effectively with non-bioinformatics staff. Employees demonstrating interest and ability will have the opportunity to contribute to academic publications at LJI.
