    BACKGROUND

    Computercraft seeks a Scientific Quality Assurance (QA) Engineer to design, implement and execute tests for the National Center for Biotechnology Information's (NCBI) application portfolio, focusing on applications that display and manipulate genomic sequences. The individual must be able to work collaboratively with scientists and development teams to ensure NCBI's systems are reliable and perform as specified. He or she will be responsible for devising and implementing QA strategies to test submission, searching, and graphical display of molecular biology data tools such as Genome Workbench and Graphical Sequence Viewer. A successful candidate will have a background in life sciences and professional experience with test automation or software development, or relevant computer science course work, including manual testing of sequence tools.

    Our scientists work onsite at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland with experts from the NIH's National Center for Biotechnology Information in the National Library of Medicine (NLM) to create and enhance a suite of databases and cutting edge tools available to researchers worldwide.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Advanced degree (MS/Ph.D.) with academic or professional background in life sciences (bioinformatics, biology, molecular biology, etc.)
    • Excellent written and verbal skills
    • Collaborative – must be able to work closely and collaboratively with software developers and project managers
    • Understanding of the software development lifecycle and experience in the areas of software testing, requirements analysis, and software design
    • Programming experience in one or more of the following languages: Python, Perl, Java, C#

    PREFERENCES

    • Experience developing or testing web applications
    • Experience implementing testing strategies such as unit, integration, regression, and system testing
    • Experience with automated testing tools such as AutoIt, Rational Functional Tester, or Selenium
