    BACKGROUND

    Preferred applicants would have a Ph.D. and a background in bioinformatics or genomics; experienced individuals with an M.S. or equivalent degree will also be considered. Although all well-qualified candidates will be considered, preference will be given to individuals with experience in the analysis of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data sets and with strong computer programming skills

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    West Virginia State University (WVSU) and the West Virginia IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (WV-INBRE) are seeking candidates for a new bioinformatics faculty position. This is a collaborative position between the WVSU and WV-INBRE. This new faculty member will be responsible for development and teaching of bioinformatics components of undergraduate and graduate courses, managing the WVSU high performance computer, collaborating with the Bioinformatics Core and Genomics Cores, and facilitating access to Bioinformatics Core computational resources, along with other duties normally assigned to full-time faculty at WVSU. The successful candidate will be expected to advise WV-INBRE and WVSU clients in the design of NGS projects, analyze NGS data sets, and assist in the development of data analysis pipelines. Startup funds are available for the acquisition of bioinformatic software, supplies and equipment for the new hire.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Preferred applicants would have a Ph.D. and a background in bioinformatics or genomics; experienced individuals with an M.S. or equivalent degree will also be considered. Although all well-qualified candidates will be considered, preference will be given to individuals with experience in the analysis of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data sets and with strong computer programming skills. Good communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical information as part of a multidisciplinary team, are required.
