BACKGROUND
The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest ranked scientific research organisations in the world. The Headquarters Laboratory is located in Heidelberg (Germany), with additional sites in Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany), Hinxton (UK) and Monterotondo (Italy).RESPONSIBILITIES
The Furlong group is seeking a highly motivated computational biologist/ bioinformatician to work on cutting edge data in the field of transcriptional regulation. The position involves the analysis of diverse types of next generation sequencing (NGS) data, and collaborating with experimental biologists in a dynamic, open and creative culture. The successful candidate will lead data analyses to examine different aspects of genome regulation, including chromatin state and transcription factor occupancy (using diverse ChIP-Seq experiments), nucleosome positioning (MNase-seq, DNAse1), gene expression (RNA-Seq, 5'-CAGE) and 3-dimensional nuclear structure (using 4C and Hi-C). If you are passionate, hard working, and excited to learn and improve your skills in an outstanding research environment, that this is the job for you!
Qualifications and ExperienceREQUIREMENTS
Applicants should have an appropriate university degree in computer science, bioinformatics or biostatistics (master degree with 3+ years of experience or Ph.D.). Prior experience with analysis of NGS datasets (RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, DNA-seq ...), R/bioconductor, scripting languages (eg shell, python) and work in a unix environment is a must. Extensive experience in bioinformatics and statistical analysis of large datasets is required. The candidate should be able to work independently and also interact well within a team environment. The successful applicant will be organized (documentation and communication is an important aspect of the job), open-minded, able to work on different projects in parallel, proactive (problem solving skills are essential) and have a user-oriented spirit.
