    Opportunity: Senior Research / Bioinformatics Data Manager (#3990) @ SRA International -- Atlanta, GA (US)

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    SRA is seeking a Bioinformatics Data Manager who will have primary responsibility for the Bioinformatics data lifecycle including managing and monitoring the intake, integrity, and use of diverse bioinformatics data types used across the Scientific Computing environment at CDC. In collaboration with team members and key stakeholders, the Data Manager will develop and implement policies, processes, and templates constituting an overarching data management plan and governing petabyte scale data storage systems supporting multiple Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) platforms and analysis groups. In addition, the Data Manager will be responsible for coordinating the receipt and management of proprietary and public data from internal and external collaborators, including the development of quality control and curation procedures required to broadly ensure data integrity. To be successful in this role, you should be knowledgeable of bioinformatics data type and standards used in their management. You will be both hands-on with the end-users as well as with the system administrators. Position is for full time employment with SRA and will be based in the CDC client's office in Atlanta GA off Clifton Rd.

    Duties:
    • Develop, implement and execute data management plan governing petabyte scale NGS data and metadata repository.
    • Actively manage data intake and exchange and develop/adopt/optimize policies and processes for cataloging diverse data types.
    • Develop, implement, and execute quality control, curation, and reporting procedures to ensure data integrity and to provide forecasting of future storage demands.
    • Work with project teams to affect best practices to effectively and efficiently utilize available storage resources.
    • Load bioinformatics data into internal systems as required, ensure appropriate metadata is in place, and facilitate the adoption appropriate standards/vocabularies as necessary.
    • Work collaboratively with team members and stakeholders having diverse needs to arrive at shared solutions and standards.
    • Work with laboratory and enterprise LIMS groups to leverage standardized data management practices as a foundation for broader data integration efforts.
    • Work hands-on with our petabyte storage system to set up shared workspaces for users and scientific instruments.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Bachelors and 4+ years experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
    • Excellent understanding of bioinformatics data types
    • Excellent understanding of Bioinformatics community resources
    • Experience with NGS data management
    • Broad understanding of bioinformatics techniques and algorithms
    • Expertise with scripting language such as Perl
    • Proficiency with relational databases

    PREFERENCES

    • Experience with the Linux operating system
    • Experience large scale storage infrastructures
    • Strong communication skills
    • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team oriented environments
    • Self starter
    • Highly organized and good people skills
