    BACKGROUND

    The bioinformatics lab (http://www.bioinfo.wsu.edu) is looking to hire a Unix Systems Administrator/Database Administrator (position number 121207). The lab develops online genomic, genetic and breeding databases and tools to facilitate world-wide crop improvement efforts that address issues associated with response to food security and environmental change. The successful candidates will be joining a dynamic team who enjoy the benefits of a more flexible schedule within an academic environment.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Unix Systems/Database Administrator is responsible for providing systems administration and database administration for the bioinformatics lab with WSU. This position will be responsible for system maintenance (installation of new software releases, including general and scientific software, system upgrades, server patching and resolving software related problems). Major responsibilities include PostgreSQL and MySQL database administration, system backup and recovery, security monitoring, and actively maintaining a disaster recovery plan for both hardware and software services.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Position requires a Bachelor's degree and 3 years of professional experience.
