    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Bioinformatics and database analyst position available at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in NYC to participate in an active, multidisciplinary research team studying the genomics of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The Bioinformatician will manage and organize large databases, and conduct statistical analysis of genomic data.

    The Bioinformatician will work with a group of researchers/biologists on innovative genomic analyses of structural variation, epigenetics, and gene expression in an integrated environment combining experimental and computational approaches to human disease. The Bioinformatician will support research projects by delivering bioinformatics services for bio-medical data from cutting-edge genomic technologies.

    The ideal candidate will have strong statistical and programming expertise in relational databases, scripting languages, and Web interfaces. M.S. in Bioinformatics or related area required.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Preferred Experience:
    • M.S. in Bioinformatics with 3 years of related work experience, or equivalent
    • Experience with scripting languages (Perl, Python) to write custom scripts for analysis of high-throughput genomic data
    • Experience in database design, tuning and optimization
    • Prior development experience in a research, industry or clinical environment with understanding of the software development cycle
    • Web development and UI experience desired
    • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and overlapping deadlines
    Additional Skills and Abilities:
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal is required.
    • Prior experience with bioinformatics tools is a plus.
    • Understanding of key biological processes and genomics technologies is a plus.
    • Ability to participate in the preparation of scientific manuscripts and presentations, both inside and outside of the institution.
