North Carolina State University's College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a tenure-track position in the field of "Translational Genomics of Infectious Diseases" at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor under the "Infectious Disease – One Health" cluster hire.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) at North Carolina State University invites applications for a tenure-track position (12 month appointment) in the field of "Translational Genomics of Infectious Diseases". This position will complement two recently filled positions in the areas of a) Infectious Disease Modeling, and b) Zoonotic Infectious Diseases. These three positions are under the umbrella of the "Infectious Disease – One Health" Dean's Faculty Excellence cluster hire. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor depending on selected candidate's research achievements and level of extramural funding. Preference will be given to candidates who have a strong research program focused on important animal, human and/or environmental health challenges associated with infectious diseases. The goal is to further strengthen the "One Health" research focus of the CVM and the Center for Comparative Medicine and Translational Research (CCMTR), by hiring investigators who use systems-based approaches and by expanding interdisciplinary interactions between those involved in health care for humans, animals, and their environment.
Future developments in the detection and prevention of infectious diseases depend on advances in genomics and bioinformatics which have almost limitless potential to generate discoveries in prevention, diagnostic testing, and therapeutic interventions. The candidate is expected to use high throughput genomics and bioinformatics for antigen discovery relevant to detection and prevention of infectious diseases. We envision hiring an individual with expertise in high throughput technologies in genomics who can collaborate with the CVM infectious disease groups, the NCSU Bioinformatics Research Center (BRC), and national and international groups with similar research goals in the development of diagnostic tests, and aid in therapeutics for diseases of importance across veterinary and human health. Besides maintaining a rigorous extramurally funded research program, candidates are expected to participate in training graduate students and teaching in the DVM curriculum.
