    The Position:
    As a Senior Scientific Software Engineer, you will ensure the delivery of transformational software that accelerates the Large Molecule drug discovery program at Genentech. You are a motivated individual with strong software development experience, excellent communication skills, and passionate about delivering quality software. You are comfortable working with compiled and scripting languages, relational and NoSQL data management systems to deliver new software, or leverage and integrate existing solutions when appropriate. You embrace the use of both commercial and open source software tools with a focus on delivering robust pipelines and systems for scientific data analysis. You will be responsible for understanding the needs of our distinguished scientists, and motivated to pursue creative solutions to challenging problems.

    You should be passionate about science, software and excel in the culture of innovation at Genentech. Applicants should have a flexible and learning mindset, able to work in a fluid and dynamic environment, and have a strong desire to pursue creative solutions to challenging problems.

    Who You Are:
    • You have a Bachelor's degree and at least 8 years of experience in computer science, computational biology, or related fields.
    • You enjoy working with customers and are passionate about working with them to deliver the greatest value through your software.
    • You have experience in all aspects of the software development process, including requirements gathering, architecture, design, implementation, release, and maintenance.
    • You have a strong desire to follow software development best practices, including automated testing and continuous integration.
    • You have strong analytical and problem solving skills and the desire to learn new technologies.
    • You are comfortable working in scientific software development environment. Our technologies include Python, R, Perl, Java, JavaScript, SQL and NoSQL.
    • You are able to present your work, both verbally and in writing, to diverse audiences including customers, technical colleagues, and management.
    • You have experience and are comfortable performing many roles on a team including individual contributor, leader, analyst, or project manager.
    • Experience in Spotfire APIs and modern web development is a plus.
