    BACKGROUND

    The Cancer Informatics Core Facility at the Moffitt Cancer Center is seeking a talented and motivated Sr. Core Staff Scientist to play a key role in big data analytics, specifically bioinformatics analysis, interpretation and integration of large data sets.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 1) Direct involvement in establishing a collaborative research environment that includes project design and consultation with Core users. 2) Development of analysis pipelines utilizing open source, commercial and novel software tools and packages. 3) Independent collaborative engagement with Center investigators for data interpretation and visualization. 4) Development of new applications and tools for the analysis of "omics" data with a focus on next-generation sequencing studies. 5) Assistance in manuscript preparation and grant submissions.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Experience in bioinformatics analysis of large data sets and specifically experience in next-generation sequencing data analysis is required.
    • Must be able to independently move projects to completion meeting agreed upon deliverables and timelines.
    • Must have a track record that demonstrates technical contributions to grant proposals and manuscript preparation. Must have the ability to develop and implement new methodology or techniques documented by reference in publications or grant proposals.
    • PhD in a related field required.

    PREFERENCES

    • Experience in linux/high performance computational cluster environment is desired.
    • Experience in an academic environment preferred, however industrial experience is acceptable.
    • Past experience within a collaborative environment, such as a customer oriented service laboratory/core facility is highly preferred.
    • 12 years of experience in field or related field preferably 7 of those in a core environment

    Moffitt is the only National Cancer Institute-designated Cancer Center in the state of Florida, and is located on the campus of the University of South Florida. The cancer center has excellent research and clinical facilities with an emphasis on precision medicine, and also includes a freestanding screening center dedicated to subject recruitment for prevention and control studies.
