    BACKGROUND

    Research Computing Services at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire seeks a highly talented and motivated Bioinformatics Specialist with software engineering skills.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    This candidate will develop services that help scientists throughout the course of research. As a key member of the Research Computing team this individual will collaborate with informatics professionals from across Dartmouth professional schools and IT to implement sequence analysis solutions and provide training and share knowledge. Support and consultation may include researching scientific computing problems and questions and responding with answers or interventions. You will also be responsible for tracking requests and analyzing request data for trends and common system problems. The ideal candidate will have broad understanding of bioinformatics tools and high-performance computing systems; and must have strong user focused interpersonal and communication skills.

    REQUIREMENTS

    We are looking for candidates with the following minimum skills and experience:
    • BS/MS/PhD in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related technical field
    • Three years of experience designing, developing, and maintaining DNA/RNA next generation sequence analysis methods
    • Demonstrated excellent coding skills in Python, PERL, C/C++, and/or Java in a distributed Linux/Unix/Cloud environment
    • Full life cycle software development experience implementing large software systems for critical production applications
    • Knowledge and practical experience using bioinformatic applications, such as aligners, genome assemblers, visualization tools, and variant callers on data from 2nd or 3rd generation sequencing technologies
    • A strong communicator who effectively adjusts to technical and non-technical audiences
    • A strong work ethic and able to prioritize and deliver results with a high emphasis on quality, technical rigor, and attention to detail
    • Able to integrate feedback in a professional manner and thrives in multidisciplinary teams with members with highly diverse backgrounds
    • Familiarity with statistical packages (R, MATLAB)
    • Design and management of SQL (SQL Server, MySQL) and noSQL (mongoDB) databases. Knowledge of web service technologies
    • Prior R&D exposure in a clinical diagnostics, pharma, or genome sequencing center setting

    TERMS

    Full-time, 40 hours a week, not grant dependent
