    Opportunity: Senior/Principal Scientist (Bioinformatics) @ Takeda Cambridge -- Cambridge, UK

    BACKGROUND

    Located in Cambridge UK, one of the world's most important pharmaceutical and biotechnology centres, Takeda Cambridge Ltd has established world-class target identification/validation and drug discovery capabilities. Our pipeline of programmes is focused on novel targets to provide new treatments for the most devastating neurodegeneration, psychiatric and cardiovascular/metabolic diseases. Worldwide, Takeda develops, manufactures and markets a broad range of pharmaceutical products and strives towards better health for patients through leading innovation in medicine.

    We are currently seeking to recruit an experienced Bioinformatician based in our Cambridge, UK facility.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Robust analysis of data with minimal supervision leading to testable hypotheses for novel drug target candidates, biomarkers, disease mechanisms or mechanisms of drug action.
    • Awareness of the current biology/bioinformatics literature and large public datasets.
    • Bridging the gap between bioinformatics and biologists by close iterative collaboration with the biology team.
    • Taking a leading role in setting up and progressing collaborations with a genomics focus.

    PREFERENCES

    The ideal candidate is likely to have a PhD in bioinformatics or related discipline. You will possess excellent technical skills and have a strong human genetics and quantitative or statistics background. In addition you will have a history of working directly with biologists to generate actionable output from high-throughput studies.

    Experience with the analysis of GWAS data sets or other human genetics approaches is required.

    Good interpersonal and communication skills are essential as you will be working closely with our scientists in support of our research projects.
